ANNUAL CHRISTMAS PARTY - 2009
The annual Christmas Party was held on December 3, 2009 at the Asper Clinical Research Building. There were 37 people in attendance. It was a wonderful opportunity to meet and renew acquaintances. Everyone was able to visit, enjoy the refreshments and take part in a short business meeting. Sheri Barker undated us on the status of transplants in Manitoba. Currently there are 48 adult heart transplants and 5 adults waiting for transplant including 3 with VADs. The H1N1 vaccination is safe and advised for people with heart transplants.
A new board was elected at the event. It included Christine Baldwin, Evelyn Beaudry, Ken Boboski, Neil McAlpine, Neil Koop, Alan Scramstad, Ron Shepertycki, and Matthew Watson.
After many years of working for people with heart transplants, George Gerow is coming off of HeartLinks Manitoba's Board. Jacqueline Pawlyszyn, on behalf of all in attendance, thanked both Geroge and his wife Geraldine for their many years of hard work and support.
The door prize of a poinsetta was won by Jill Tardiff.
SPRING GATHERING 2010
Approximately 30 people gathered at the home of Alan Scramstad and Alison Campbell on a sunny June 5th. The afternoon was beautiful, the food scrumptious and the hosts very welcoming.
I was great to renew friendships, welcome new poeple and to share heart transplant stories and experiences.
It was with sadness that we learned of the passing of one of our members, Anne Dubinsky, on June 22nd. Anne was with us at the picnic and our hearts go out to her family,

The annual Christmas Party was held on December 9th at the Asper Clinical Research Building. There were approximately 40 people in attendance and many others who sent their regrets. This is the first year and first event in which we were able to welcome the VAD patients to our group. It was wonderful to have then join us this year. An update on the Heart Failure Clinic was given by Dr Shelley Zieroth including the introduction of Dr Cordova. The VAD program is going well, with the hope that in 1-2 years, heart transplants will be done in Winnipeg. However, work still needs to be done on donor awareness.
A new board was elected and included Christine Baldwin, Evelyn Beaudry, Ken Boboski, Neil Koop, Neil McAlpine, Bob Monday, Alan Scramstad, Ron Serpertycki, Matthew Baldwin and Elaine Madison. Priorities for 2010 included public relations regarding donor awareness and the importance of donor coards, the ability to receipt donations with a tax receipt, information session of travel/health insurance and social get-togethers.
